Overview |
| Aphoenix, Inc. is a chemical genomics company based in Tokyo, Japan. Our technology platform is a "reverse targeting," approach of small molecules. Using its proprietary affinity chromatographic techniques, we exploit drugs which lack known mechanisms of action as probes for discovering valid and druggable targets, and then develop such compounds against validated targets. |
| Aphoenix's core competencies include in affinity purification technology using special nano-scale beads and other supporting technologies such as medicinal chemistry, mass spectroscopy, informatics and molecular biology. |
| Aphoenix leverages its powerful target identification engine to generate an expanding pipeline, both for in-house development and for partnership. Aphoenix possesses early stage drug discovery programs in respiratory and inflammatory diseases. |
| The flagship project of the company is non-antibiotic macrolide for chronic inflammations including Chronic Sinusitis, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease(COPD), Psoriasis, Inflammatory Bowel Disease(IBD) and Rheumatoid Arthritis and acute inflammation like Sepsis. The hypothesis of this drug was generated from long term clinical evidences of macrolide in Japan and the company applies reverse targeting approach on these existing drugs. |
| The company was founded in 2002 as a university spin-off startup from Tokyo Institute of Technology. To date, the company has raised a total of $9M in three rounds of financin in April, 2002, April, 2003, and July, 2004.
